Noel Carrington's Picture Puffins enjoyed success during and after the war; this title was published in 1942 and was reprinted many times. His ambition to raise the quality of design, illustration and content is summed when he said of Village and Town that it was "the most ambitious and beautifully printed Puffin to date, which carries the child through centuries of English building to problems of reconstruction". In later life, he helped to revive his sister Dora's reputation and, in doing so, found his own many accomplishments overshadowed by her and the Bloomsbury Group.
