Josef Frank cabinet 1937 upholstered with material

And finally something completely different: in the 1930s a Josef Frank cabinet covered in fabric  was the fashionable thing to have; this one is now in the V and A and one sold recently for a great deal of money. There is an exhibition (which is on until May 7th) at the Textile Museum of Frank’s work (he was Austrian but moved to Sweden). ‘Frank believed in creating homes with character, that define the people who live there. His furniture was comfortable, often with rounded edges, and he used colour and pattern to add warmth and personality. Back then, this was a radical idea’ wrote the Guardian.
