A Hodgson family portrait. From L-R: Vere’s elder brother Charles, her mother Catherine, father Bryan, sister Catherine and Winifred Vere (smiling very sweetly to someone off-camera).  Her characterful-looking brother Charles Bryan Hodgson was sent to school at the Royal Orphanage at Wolverhampton after the death of their father in 1907. Charles contracted rheumatic fever and died of pneumonia in 1915 just before his sixteenth birthday.
