By the late 1970s needlepoint had become rather staid and polite, but Kaffe Fassett transformed the craft by creating extravagant, colourful designs, often on lower count canvas so that they took less time to finish. He says, "Before attempting needlepoint, I had the idea that it required a daunting amount of patience to produce.
