The art of making rag rugs has not yet died and may yet enjoy a small-scale revival after this year's Winifred Nicholson: Cumbrian Rag Rugs touring exhibition (with a good book to accompany it). At one time, it was customary to make a new rag rug or "proggy" in time for Christmas, with last year's being demoted to a bedroom and that room's going to the dog basket.
