The Stevens family could send their luggage ahead (poster 1927-43) but instead use a local porter who collects and wheels their suitcases to the station with them. Today, the idea of taking a clothes brush on holiday and wearing, as Mr Stevens does, flannel trousers, a cricket shirt with a tweed Norfolk jacket, and stout brown walking boots to the seaside - but wearing a "tie of course, for the train journey" - seems terribly old-fashioned, but he is delighted with his "splendid, easy clothes".
