Florence Hess (1891-1974) painted this Beach Scene in 1925. Scroll down here for a portrait of her aged 20; and there are more of her paintings (all seaside scenes) here. All these superb painters about whom so little is known! If this was hanging in a gallery and was by a well-known post-impressionist, or was sold for huge amounts at auction, one wouldn’t be a bit surprised – but might it have to be by a man?!
