Daffodil-growing is returning to Cornwall, but flowers are a mainstay of the mild Isles of Scilly economy where early, scented narcissi have been grown for centuries. Today they are sent out to florists and supermarkets and by mail order, ahead of growers in cooler parts of the UK. This is a typical, glorious image of a gently sloping field full of daffodils meeting sand, sea, and blue sky in early spring on St Martin's.
