The reason the decoration in the David Parr House has survived mostly unchanged and intact is that after his death in 1927 his granddaughter, Elsie Palmer, arrived at the age of twelve and changed very little in the following eighty-five years that she spent here. The house only came to light in 2009, when a local historian visited the house for the first time and began the work to form the charitable trust that would preserve the house for posterity. This is the kitchen with mostly original fittings, no mod cons and, on the left, a William Morris-inspired design painted by David Parr.
