When we see Bette Davis (1908-89) knitting on the deck of an ocean liner in Now, Voyager (1942), we are watching the real thing. A good number of actresses such as Grace Kelly, Katharine Hepburn, Amy Adams and Meryl Streep, enjoy knitting, but Bette Davis was, perhaps, the most dedicated on-set knitter and crocheter. Here she is with her crochet between takes on the set of The Letter (1940), while her stand-in, Anne Sage, knits.
