Sue Montgomery, a city councillor and borough mayor in Montreal, knits during council meetings to help her concentrate on speeches in French, her second language. In 2019 she decided to create a colour-coded shawl, knitting with red when men spoke and green when women spoke (there were 34 men to 31 women). In this article, she estimates that 75-80% of the scarf is red. There is so much to say about this, and about knitting as a political act.
