The Victoria Art Gallery in Bath has a fine collection of tempera paintings, including this, Alpine Flowers (1932) by Helen Lavinia Cochrane (1868-1946). After working as a nurse during WWI, she spent many years in central Italy where she painted this detailed study of flowers picked on a walking expedition in the region. Most of her works are watercolours, but her "much fewer works in tempera rise to near-brilliance".
