The multi-talented and prolific Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970) is perhaps the best known of all the Newlyn artists. She arrived in 1907 with her husband Harold Knight, also an artist, and painted many locations in and around Newlyn. This glorious scene, which is how Cornwall looks now during this sunny September, is 'Autumn Sunlight, Sennen Cove, Cornwall' (1922, Birmingham Museums Trust). It could double as a poster for a travel or train company, and indeed Laura Knight designed several posters for London transport.
