Dod Procter (1890-1972) bought 27 North Corner in Newlyn with her husband, Ernest Procter, also an artist, and she lived there for fifty years. She is best known for her portraits of young women and girls, and gained immense but short-lived fame when her painting 'Morning' (1926, Tate) was bought for the nation by the Daily Mail in 1927 and it was briefly the most famous painting in the country. This striking 'Self Portrait' (undated, Penlee House) appears on the cover of A Singular Vision (2007), the excellent book about her and her work.
