Ranunculus and Pears (2004, Art Gallery of NSW) was used to illustrate Margaret Olley's obituary in The Guardian. It was exhibited in London in 2005 alongside works by Vuillard and Bonnard, with whom she has close affinities; all three could be described as 'intimiste' artists who take domestic life as one of their prime subjects. As her obituary says, this put her 'a long way from art's cutting edge', but did not prevent from enjoying enormous success. Would that the same could be said of some of our authors in their lifetimes and after.
