Alec Walker was encouraged by Raoul Dufy whom he met in France and whose influence can be see in this Cryséde dress silk, 'Cornish Farm' (1930), a design adapted from one Walker's own painting. As the V&A says on its website, the colours of many Cryséde fabrics are similar to those used by the Fauves, and "their loose, painterly style and subject matter were a vibrant contrast to the discreet floral dress fabrics typical of the time".
