Margaret Olley was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2006, for both her art and her philanthropy. She supported a variety of causes, from healthcare to museums, and was a leading patron of the arts, mentoring young artists and donating millions of dollars (made from her property portfolio) to public galleries to help them acquire works.
