Degas Viscount Lepic and his Daughters crossing the Place de la Concorde i1875 is one of the great French pictures: 'All four humans are looking in a different direction, none with eyes as fixed as Albrecht Lepic. What we see is a man taking the air in central Paris with his family including his dog. It is a world of social disconnection, with a dog at its centre.'
