Chloë Cheese (b 1952), the daughter of Bernard Cheese and Sheila Robinson, grew up in Great Bardfield. Her lively, loose style is instantly recognisable. Here, in Crossing the Bridge - Dorsoduro, Venice, it animates a snapshot of daily life on another bridge (there are more than four hundred in Venice), this time in the less touristy university area. She has just been back to Venice to paint one of the few remaining boatyards.
