This is Sussex Oak, a block-printed organic hemp fabric by Sarah Burns who uses natural dyes (here oak galls and iron) and a slow, traditional, hand-printing process. She forages for dye materials from the fields and hedgerows in West Sussex, and her patterns are inspired by those found in churches along the South Downs Way. This is very much in the tradition of Barron & Larcher one of whose designs we use for the endpapers of As It Was, and in fact Sarah co-authored the excellent Barron & Larcher Textile Designers (2018).
