These are the original door fittings designed by Walter Gropius (1883-1969) at an entrance to the Bauhaus in Dessau. The modernist handle made from nickel-plated brass has become an absolute classic because it does exactly what you expect it to do: it turns easily, requires little strength, and is suited to all levels of dexterity and muscle. Gropius designed it for the Fagus factory in Afeld but it went into mass production in 1923. It is still produced by ironmongery manufacturer Izéand is regarded as the most commercially successful product to emerge from the Bauhaus movement.
