The Camouflage Workshop, Leamington Spa (1940, IWM), seen here in a painting by Edwin La Dell, is a little-known but fascinating aspect of the war effort. A number of notable artists, including La Dell, Evelyn Dunbar, and Mary Adshead, painted scenes of work or were employed here as "camoufleurs", designing and implementing military camouflage often for enormous potential targets such as cooling towers. Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum published a nicely illustrated book to accompany their exhibition in 2016.
