Shetland Wool Week, "the biggest celebration of Shetland wool and traditional knitting in the world" has just finished, a timely reminder that even though we are enjoying a warm and sunny October so far, it's not too early to start thinking about knitting patterns and yarns for colder weather. The beauty and appeal of Fair Isle knitting, as illustrated here by Stanley Cursiter's The Fair-Isle Jumper (1923, City Art Centre), are timeless, as can be seen from the number of events that were dedicated to it.
