The Beatles this week, to coincide with a trip to Liverpool for a fan to visit some of the key locations. The Cavern Club on Mathew Street is, of course, where it all started in the early 1960s. The Beatles played at lunchtimes and evenings to adoring audiences of local office and shop workers who enjoyed their post-Hamburg leather gear, Liverpool accents, and unruly behaviour - eating, smoking, and joking in between the brilliantly energetic and loud music. Here we have a young John, Paul, and George, with Pete Best on drums in the cramped but atmospheric Cavern, a reconstruction of which is still open for live music from 11am.
